All American a godsend for Geisel Park

Saturday, 13 August 2016 - All American has a new juvenile division full of potential to build on what Yankee Rose achieved in 2015-16.

Group 1 winning colts Extreme Choice (123) and Capitalist (122) led the Timeform 2YO ratings from Yankee Rose (120) last season and she will be a unanimous choice as Australia’s Champion Filly if voting reflects those rankings.

She finished many, many lengths ahead of Timeform’s next-best filly Samara Dancer (111).

All American sired her among 61 foals in his third crop. There’s another 101 to come this season and 30 of them have been nominated for the G1 Blue Diamond and/or G1 Golden Slipper.

Among them is the Gai Waterhouse trained colt Starvino. His dam Sylvaner (NZ) won the G2 Sunline Classic at Moonee Valley and she also foaled LR Victoria Gold Cup winner Vesper.

Lindsay Park trainer David Hayes, who prepared All American to a Group 1 victory in the Emirates Stakes, has nominated Freedom For All. The colt’s older half-sister So Anyway won a LR Dark Jewel Classic.

Magic Millions 2YO Classic winning trainer Bjorn Baker has three All Americans entered including She's All Spirit. Her dam is a half-sister to Group 1 winning sprinters Temple of Boom and Spirit Of Boom.

A second top-shelf youngster in as many years will be a godsend for WA-based Geisel Park Stud. Owner Eddie Rigg spirited All American out of the Hunter Valley just weeks before Yankee Rose won the G1 Sydney Sires’ Produce Stakes at Randwick.

Pin-hookers have jumped on the bandwagon with four entries for the Inglis Ready2Race Sale at Newmarket on October 4. The only filly cost $52,500 as a yearling at the Inglis Classic and she has been entered by Lauriston Thoroughbred Farm (as agent) for the Sydney 2YO Sale.

Catalogued as Lot 86, she is bred to go early. Her dam Sharp Hill is a Danehill mare who won a Sale nursery on debut and within a month she added a black-type placing when by Peter Moody sent her to Adelaide for the LR Dequettville Stakes.

Meanwhile, Yankee Rose will return to racing in the G1 Golden Rose (1400m) on September 10. “She will race second-up in the Flight Stakes and that looks her most realistic Group 1,” managing owner Scott Darby predicted. “David (Vandyke) is really focused on the Flight Stakes. That looks her race.

“The Cox Plate will depend on how she performs in those two races. All going well, we will then head to the Victorian Oaks. We’ve always thought she’s a filly who’s going to appreciate the extra ground.”
