All American all out at Toowoomba

Saturday, 15 May, 2021 |  Rest Of The World claimed one of the closest finishes ever seen at Toowoomba when he sprinted through a gap to nail the Neil Mansell Group Hcp (1100m) on Saturday.

The All American sprinter jumped from an outside gate and took a three-wide trail for Nathan Fazackerley before making a late bid down the centre of the course.  A wall of horses hit the line locked together with fifth-placed Line Up beaten no more than a long neck at Clifford Park.

“They’re strung right across the track,” course broadcaster Anthony Collins cried.  “Good luck sorting that out.  I’ve got no idea but Rest Of The World did get through late.”

Rest Of The World was racing for just the second time under the care of local trainer Mark Currie.  He had won a Grafton 3yo maiden and been placed several times at Doomben before a stable transfer from Matthew Dunn earlier this year.

Glastonbury Farm’s Duncan Grimley bred him from Unhappy (Redoute's Choice) who is an unraced daughter of Happyanunoit (Yachtie), a Group 1 winner in NZ (Manawatu Sires Produce Stakes) and in North America (Matriarch Stakes, Beverly Hills Hcp & Gamely Breeders' Cup).

He was entered but withdrawn from the 2017 Inglis Scone Yearling Sale and represents the All American - Redoute's Choice cross which has produced 22 individual winners at a 66% strike-rate.  Hong Kong star Elusive State heads that division with earnings the equivalent of AUD $1.64 million.

Geisel Park stands All American  (pictured) and the farm’s unraced homebred Total Lockdown is a promising 2yo for Ascot trainer Simon Miller.  “I’ve given him extra time before racing,” Miller told The West Australian Newspaper this week.  “He’s big and still learning and it seems he will be a good race prospect.”

Total Lockdown won a Lark Hill trial earlier this month and his dam Chloe Maree (Elusive Quality) has a beautiful Vert De Grece (Ire) yearling filly with York-based breeder Kelly Davis.
