Cups double by Danehill Express

Tuesday, 19 August 2014 - Trainer Helen Harding was weighing up whether to spell promising stayer Get Round It before he won the Goldfields Tatt's Cup (2300m) in Kalgoorlie on Sunday.

The Danehill Express gelding had been in work since joining her stable in November apart from a short break after the G2 WATC Derby in April. “I haven’t got much choice now,” Harding said after watching him bolt in by three lengths. “I don’t think the owners would let me tip him out anyway!”

Get Round It completed a feature double on the weekend for Mungrup Stud sire Danehill Express and Geisel Park breeder Eddie Rigg. They combined to win the Belmont Park Cup with Express Service on Saturday.

Get Round It (4g Danehill Express - Femme D'Affaire by Woodman) is from an unraced French bred mare who has also foaled Rigg’s LR Hannans Hcp winner Mr Vadim.

“We will run him in the Coolgardie Cup in a fortnight before deciding whether to keep going for the Boulder Cup and Kalgoorlie Cup,” Harding said. “We just have to keep in mind he’s going to be a much better horse next year.”

Harding is a fan of Danehill Express. “I do like him as a sire – we also have Anywhere Express and he has won six races for us in Kal. I went back to Mungrup for his younger sister and we’ve named her Anywhere Anyhow.”

Geisel Park is off to a great start this season and four of its winners - Get Round It, Bangkok Express, The Director and Express Service – are by Danehill Express.

Express Service scored a deserved victory in the Belmont Park Cup after being sidelined with a leg injury last season. Rigg kept a share after selling him to Impressive Racing for $42,000 at the 2011 Perth Magic Millions.

Express Service (5g Danehill Express – Lip Service by Marooned) had already paid his way with wins in the LR Challenge Stakes at Magic Millions 3YO Trophy and Saturday’s victory increased his earnings to over $330,000.
