Maher buys American artillery in Melbourne

Tuesday, 28 February 2017 - Group 1 trainer Ciaron Maher won’t be short of artillery in the juvenile division next season after buying another 7 yearlings at this week’s Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.

The record-breaking $1.40 million colt by I am Invincible stole the headlines but Maher also mined the middle-market for colts by Written Tycoon ($200k) & Sebring ($200k), a filly by All American ($125k) and a colt by Medaglia d'Oro ($100k).

All American stands at Geisel Park and his filly out of Kirovskaya (French Deputy) looked good value at a pumped-up Premier Sale. She’s a half-sister to two winners by Manhattan Rain and is from a breakout family of Group 1 winners in Japan.

ALL AMERICAN FILLY X KIROVSKAYAKirovskaya was the first Australian conceived foal from Kirov Premiere (Sadler's Wells) who was imported to Australia by Arrowfield Chairman John Messara in August 2003. A year later her half-sister Cesaro (Special Week) emerged as a Champion 3YO Filly winning the Japan Oaks and G1 American Oaks at Hollywood Park.

Cesaro has gone on to foal two Group 1 winning colts - Epiphaneia (Japan Cup) and Leontes (Asahi Hai Futurity).

Earlier in February, New Zealand trainer Jason Collett bought an All American - Star Pupil (Starcraft) filly for $85,000 at the Inglis Classic Sale in Sydney. She’s a three-quarter sister to All American’s first stakes winner Bachman.

Scott Darby bought All American’s Group 1 Champion Yankee Rose at the 2015 Inglis Classic and he paid $55,000 for an All American – Milanesa (Snitzel) filly this year. Her older half-brother Full Throttle is a last-start Goulburn winner for Darby Racing.

All American has a beautifully-bred filly catalogued as Lot 455 for the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale on Thursday, April 6. She’s the first foal of She’s A Wildcat and she’s an unraced sister to Group 1 winning sprinter Foxwedge.
