Morton strikes with Hot Metal

Thursday, 1 July 2021 | Trainer Dan Morton has elected to strike while the iron is hot with All Metal in Broome.

The All American 3yo filly had not ventured past 1100m in a half-dozen starts before stretching out to win the Kennards Hire Maiden (1300m) last Sunday.  Starting a $2.90 favourite, she was driven to the front by Chris Nicholl and had the field covered a long way out when cruising home by two lengths.

Morton prepares All Metal for Harvey couple Richard and Sonia Bennett and they will send her over further ground in the Divers Tavern Hcp (1435m) this Saturday.

All Metal descends from a Heytesbury Stud family going back to So Seldom Seen (Century) who was a half-sister to 1989 WA Horse of the Year Hold That Smile and long-time Heytesbury homebred stallion Carry A Smile.

Westspeed breeder Stan Quinlivan has nurtured her branch of the family for the last three generations.  Her dam Metallica (State City) has an unraced Playing God 2yo filly named Solder and she will carry Quinlivan’s Group 1 winning purple and white colours with trainer Adam Durrant.

All Metal is the 15th individual winner from All American’s first crop conceived at Geisel Park.  Morton also trains that crop’s flag-bearer Kallaroo (LR Fairetha Stakes).

His second has several highlights including the yearling full-sister to All American’s G1 Queensland Derby winner Dark Dream.  She has been named Graceful Dream.  NSW breeder Mary-Ann Basson has their dam Buchanan Girl (Lion Hunter) boarding at Myalup and the mare delivered another All American filly last October.

Kallaroo’s owner-breeder David Reed has an All American - Jennywren yearling colt named Kachika.  He’s another with a WA black-type pedigree going back to 1987 Belgravia Stakes winner Joy Of The Jungle (Jungle Boy).

Overall, All American has sired 220 individual winners for total prizemoney in excess of $25 million.  He stands at Geisel Park for a $5,500 fee with Vert De Grece (Ire) at $4,400.  All fees (inc GST).
